An upmarket mainstream drama adapted from Donna Tartt‘s lengthy Pulitzer Prize-winning bestseller.
Ansel Elgort, of Baby Driver and teen cancer weepie The Fault in Our Stars fame, is cast as Theodore ‘Theo’ Decker, whose mother was killed in a bombing at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art when he was just 13 years old. During the attack, he pilfered a famous Dutch oil painting of a chained goldfinch (a real artwork, fact fans). Wealthy socialite Samantha Barbour (Nicole Kidman) subsequently adopts the orphaned lad, but the trauma of that fateful day sends him off into a life of crime.
