Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s 1972 lesbian chamber piece is set entirely in the heroine’s apartment. Petra Von Kant (Margit Cartensen) is a successful fashion designer who enjoys a sado-masochistic affair with her assistant Marlene (Irm Hermann) until model Karin (Hanna Schygulla) turns up for a tempestuous affair. Melodrama and frequent costume changes ensue.
It’s back on screen in the Watershed’s Peter Strickland and the Scala Sunday brunch season to accompany the release of In Fabric.
