Round Midnight

Director
Bertrand Tavernier
Certificate
15
Running Time
128 mins

Bertrand Tavernier‘s watery-eyed evocation of a lost age of jazz casts Dexter Gordon as an ageing alcoholic saxophonist who moves to Paris in 1959 and strikes up a friendship with young French fan Francois Cluzet. Schmaltzy stuff, but Gordon is brilliant, as is the film’s Oscar winning soundtrack (by Herbie Hancock) and its evocative, seedy atmosphere.

This latest screening at Totterdown’s Old Picture House also features live music and an introduction by organisers Natalie Davis and Dave Merrick. Email Dave at [email protected] for tickets and further info.
