Running Time

Technically the eighth screen adaptation of Louisa May Alcott‘s 1868 coming-of-age novel set in post-Civil War America (the previous one was a modern-day reworking made in 2018, but that wasn’t released in this country), Lady Bird director Greta Gerwig‘s version squeezes a MeToo-era cast into the corsets and bonnets as the March sisters Jo (Saoirse Ronan) Meg (Emma Watson), Amy (Florence Pugh) and Beth (Eliza Scanlen).

Timothée Chalamet is hunky boy next door Laurie, Laura Dern plays Marmee and Meryl Streep bags the role of Aunt Josephine. The standard to beat was set either by the 1933 Katharine Hepburn film or the 1994 Winona Ryder one, according to taste. Go here for our full review.
