Samuel Maoz, Israeli director of the outstanding Lebanon, returns with another universally acclaimed, award-winning drama about the absurdities of war.
This one’s an angry, occasionally surreal triptych which proved controversial among conservative critics and Israel’s Minster of Culture for depicting a cover-up of the shooting of four Arab youths. A Tel Aviv couple (Sarah Adler, Lior Ashkenazi) are devastated to be told by the military that their conscript son, Jonathan Feldmann, has been killed in the line of duty. Five hours later, they pop back to admit they’ve made a mistake. A Jonathan Feldmann has died, but not their one. Down on a grim, remote roadblock, one of these Jonathan Feldmanns is among a group of bored, immature young soldiers with nothing to do except get jumpy when any Arabs approach…
