Deriving from the same 1926 Broadway source but much more fun than the 2002 Oscar-winning musical, Frank Urson‘s 1927 silent film stars Phyllis Haver as scandalously hard-boozin’, jazz-crazed Roxie Hart, who bumps off her hubby in cold blood. All versions of the story were inspired by the true tale of Beulah Annan.

The Curzon’s screening features live piano accompaniment by John Sweeney and is part of the series of events in collaboration with South West Silents, Bristol Festival of Ideas, Cube Cinema and the Watershed celebrating the films of the Weimar Republic as well as the ‘City and Silent Film’.
