A 14-year-old nipper plummets through the ice on a frozen Missouri lake while horsing around with his buddies. After being submerged for 15 minutes, he’s pronounced a goner by the godless sawbones. But his Christian fundamentalist mom refuses to let go and cries out to Beardy Man in the Sky to save her lad. And guess what? Take that science! It’s a miracle!
Sadly, the Big Fella doesn’t appear to bless his devotional fimmakers with much in the way of inspiration, as this latest US faith drama follows the usual pattern as it takes pot shots at science, rationalism, the medical establisment and unbelievers in general. Those who already subscribe to unshakeable supernatural fantasies should find much to enjoy here, though it’s hard to imagine anyone else being drawn to this fundamentalist weepie.
