Ben Is Back

Director
Peter Hedges
Certificate
15
Running Time
103 mins

Just in case Beautiful Boy didn’t meet all your junkie kid/anguished parent needs, here are Lucas Hedges and Julia Roberts to do it all again in this latest addiction drama.

Hedges plays 19-year-old recovering addict Ben who pitches up unexpectedly at the family home on Christmas Eve, insisting that his sponsor told him a last-minute break from rehab would do him the world of good. Mom Holly (Roberts) is naturally delighted to see him. But can he stay off the opioids for the next 24 hours? There’s some welcome humour along the way, and Roberts is on fine form, but you may be forgiven for finding this all rather familiar.
