Cables & Cameras: Riot
- Running Time
- 120 mins
For their April event, Cables & Cameras have teamed up with the Black South West Network for a screening and symposium to mark the 40th anniversary of the first St. Pauls Riot, which took place on April 2, 1980. The riot followed a police raid on the now-demolished Black and White Cafe in Grosvenor Road against the backdrop of increasing racial tension and the alienation of black youth. The riot lasted for several hours during which fire engines and police cars were damaged, 130 people were arrested and 25 were taken to hospital.
