Yet another of those jolly ‘feelgood’ boilerplate Britcoms based loosely on true stories (Fisherman’s Friends, Calendar Girls, etc., etc) that set out to manipulate the heartstrings in the hope of securing a Full Monty-sized jackpot. The only difference here is that it’s from the director of The Full Monty himself, Peter Cattaneo, who hasn’t had a hit since, er, The Full Monty.
Kristin Scott Thomas and Sharon Horgan are the chalk’n’cheese leaders of a choir formed by spouses of British soldiers fighting in Afghanistan. Safe and cosy are the watchwords here, as the warbling ladies become a chart sensation. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll take your mum. You’ll fall asleep.
