The Italian Job

Director
Peter Collinson

PG
Running Time
97 mins

Your only chance to see Michael Caine, Benny Hill and Noel Coward in the same movie, this truly fab swinging sixties heist flick has even survived the dire remake treatment. Caine leads the band of wrong ‘uns who plot to half-inch a heap of gold bullion in Turin by causing a bloody great traffic jam. Fascinating factoid: watch carefully and you’ll notice that there aren’t any scenes in which he’s seen whizzing about behind the wheel. That’s because he couldn’t drive and didn’t pass his test until he was 50.

It’s yet another of those cinema classics that celebrate their 50th anniversary this year; hence the film’s welcome return to the big screen.
