Another classic horror flick getting the pointless, inferior remake treatment? Everyone loves Dario Argento’s original 1978 Suspiria, not least for its giallo stylings and that great prog rock soundtrack by Goblin. But the plot was a bit thin and the performances occasionally rather ropy. This slowburning remake – or self-styled “cover version” – by Luca Guadagnino, director of the Oscar nominated Call Me by Your Name sets out to address these issues, firstly by casting his muse Tilda Swinton alongside the likes of Dakota Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz and the unimprovably named Mia Goth.

The sleazy grindhouse-style story of a coven of witches operating within a Berlin dance academy now becomes a lush arthouse fever dream that only eventually unleashes the grue. And this time, the soundtrack is the first film score composed by Radiohead’s Thom Yorke. Go here for our full review.

It’s back on screen as part of the Watershed’s Sunday brunch  OK Composer: The Scores of Jonny Greenwood and Thom Yorke season, which forms part of Filmic ’19.
