Popular bike trail reopens at Leigh Woods
A popular mountain biking trail at Leigh Woods has reopened following a major refurbishment designed to make it more accessible to a wider range of riders.
Forestry England has relaunched the Yer Tiz cycling trail after a complete overhaul aimed at reflecting changes in mountain biking and the bikes people ride.
The blue-grade trail, originally built in 2011, has been fully resurfaced and widened, with new berms to accommodate everyone from experienced mountain bikers to beginners developing off-road skills, as well as those using adapted or non-standard off-road cycles.
The Yer Tiz cycling trail now has an average width of 1.2m, with a minimum width of 1m, and gradients kept below ten per cent.
The revamp was part of an ongoing mission to maintain the city’s off-road bike trails and protect the future of mountain biking in Bristol, and follows the recent reopening of the Quarry Climb in Ashton Court.

“Yer Tiz has many loyal fans who have enjoyed it over the last 15 years and I’m delighted that this refurbishment makes the trail welcoming for a wider range of riders,” said Nikki Morgans, manager of Leigh Woods.
“Cycling is an amazing sport and family activity, especially here in Bristol, and we know that spending time in nature is great for both physical and mental health.”
The refurbishment was carried out by trail-building specialists On Track and funded through Forestry England’s Access for All programme.

Thanks to a £200,000 revamp, the Yer Tiz trail is more fun than ever
