The true extent of the foul effects of putting so-called “flushable” wet wipes down the toilet has been revealed in the form of what is being dubbed Wet Wipe Mountain.
The towering piles of wet wipes fished out of the system in a sewage works in Avonmouth is being used to highlight how personal hygiene companies and supermarkets are peddling the myth of the flushable wipe.
According to Wessex Water, the wipes are a constant cause of blockages which sees human waste back up in drains and onto streets around Bristol.
The company released video footage of the grim blockages one of its staff encountered in the space of a few hours in and around the city:

Wessex Water has written a letter to wet wipe producers, supermarkets and the Advertising Standards Authority, calling for an end to “misleading” branding and packaging.
