Video: Becky Watts search party

By Pamela Parkes  Wednesday Feb 25, 2015

Around 200 people gathered in St George on Wednesday evening to search for the missing teenager Becky Watts.

Among them was her father, grandfather and uncle, Joe Galsworthy, who said he was “incredibly grateful” that so many people have come out looking for the 16-year-old, who disappeared from her family home on Crown Hill six days ago.

Earlier police held a press conference saying despite extensive searches of the local area, including Troopers Hill, nothing “of significance” had been found.

Investigating officers said they were still treating Becky’s disappearance as a missing person inquiry, although they they are growing increasingly concerned for her welfare.

Her parents have left their house in Crown Hill while police forensic teams examine it.

Becky left her home last Thursday at approximately 11am. Her step mother was the last person to see her. Since then police have found no trace of the teenager.

DI Richard Ocone is leading the investigation: “I would also ask anyone who might know where Becky is to come forward and let us know.

“It’s completely out of character for Becky to leave without telling her family or friends where she’s going – especially if she is not planning on coming home.

“Being a 16-year-old girl, we know that Becky is very social media savvy. I would like to make a plea for everyone to get behind our online campaign to find her using the hashtag #findbecky.

“We’ve also set up a dedicated page on our Force website which includes an online contact form where people can get in touch if they have any information for us.

“Rebecca has a wide range of friends and relatives, some of whom we haven’t been able to contact yet. If Rebecca has been in touch with you, please contact us as a matter of urgency.

“Becky is a white girl, aged 16, about 5ft 4ins and of slim build. She has long, red /auburn hair and is very striking.

“If you are able to help, please call us on the force number 101, quoting the reference MP 591/15.

“Alternatively, information can be left anonymously on Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
