The City of Bristol Pipes & Drums band led the procession from College Green to the Centre on Remembrance Sunday.
They were followed by the massed ranks of service personnel young and old, their medals glinting in the autumnal sunshine.
Elected officials were represented too, with many councillors choosing to dress in ceremonial scarlet robes.
Lord mayor Henry Michallat, lord-lieutenant Peaches Golding and high sheriff Kalpna Woolf were among those who laid wreathes at the base of the Cenotaph.
Bristol Central MP Carla Denyer’s wreath contained both red poppies “to help those who have been affected by war” and white poppies “to work for peace”.
