Clarence Road was buzzing with police cars, fire engines and ambulances during the rescue operation

Everyone appeared to be calm and engulfed with a sense of relief knowing that they had just saved a life.

A spokesperson from Avon Fire and Rescue confirmed that the person was brought to safety and “handed over” to the ambulance service.

Describing the rescue operation, they said: “Crews from Bedminster, Temple, Southmead, Bath and Portishead rescued them using a turn table ladder and a twin line system. Police and ambulance were on the scene.”

While there were rumours on social media that someone had fallen into the water, authorities have confirmed that this was not the case

Avon and Somerset Police were informed about the incident at 1.04pm and they arrived soon after to assist with road closures.

These closures were in place at the entry and exit points of Clarence Road, through Bedminster Bridge Roundabout to assist with the rescue operations.

All roads have now been reopened.

On the Avon Fire and Rescue website, the incident has been listed as a water incident in Redcliffe that was cleared around 2.38pm.
