Debbonaire lays out her successes as MP

By Hope Talbot  Thursday May 30, 2024

Labour MP for Bristol West Thangam Debbonaire has recounted her successes as MP, ahead of the general election.

In a recent campaign video, Debbonaire highlighted her success reinstating the 25 bus connecting Horfield Common and Bristol city centre and providing a dentist practice for St Pauls, where there were previously none.

In the video, Debbonaire said: “My pledges to you are that I will always listen and be accountable to you, and do my best to represent in Parliament and be your voice at the heart of Parliament.”

Throughout the video, she also promises government-wide action on the climate crisis and efforts to lower the cost of living.

Warning against voting for other parties, Debbonaire said: “A vote for another party risks another five years of Tory chaos.”

This comes amid Debbonaire’s hopes for re-election as MP for Bristol Central, a seat she is competing for against Green co-leader Carla Denyer.

Some polls are predicting a Green win for Bristol Central, however, in a recent interview, Debbonaire reinstated her confidence in a Labour win.

She said: “I  do not take polls as the indicator of future success. I take what I’m getting on the doorstep as an indicator of how voters actually feel.”

As part of her election pledges, Debbonaire also hopes to provide greater support for young people’s mental health services and aid refugees coming to the UK.
