Colston Hall to receive ?10m from council
The Colston Hall could be receiving up to £10m from Bristol City Council towards its refurbishment.
This is double the initial financial commitment from the council towards the cost of significant modernisation for the venue.
In total, £45m is needed in order to remodel the main auditorium and redevelop The Lantern, and redevelop the cellars underneath the building in which Sherlock was recently filmed.
Assistant mayor Simon Cook said: “This latest financial commitment goes a long way in ensuring the Hall’s future is secure for everyone to enjoy. It will ensure the Hall continues to deliver world class entertainment for the benefit of local, national and international audiences and it is an important step in our journey towards realising that vision.”
As well as its refurbishment plans, the Colston Hall is also aiming to become a national centre for entertainment, education and enterprise and the so-called “UK capital of Young People’s music”, with an education programme that hopes to make an impact on every single child in Bristol by 2020.
