‘Colourful Georgian enclave’ in Bristol named among top UK places to live
A neighbourhood in our city is one of the UK’s most desirable places to live, according to the latest The Sunday Times Best Places to Live guide.
Kingsdown, described as “colourful Georgian enclave”, was praised by judges from the Sunday Times for its blend of city centre convenience and community feel.
They noted its walking distance access to our city’s bars, restaurants and cultural attractions alongside a growing appeal for “families and young professionals now moving into the painted period houses that used to be occupied by students”.
Also highlighted was Kingsdown Sports Centre and “enough good pubs and cafes to make it feel like a place in its own right”.
A spokesperson said: “Live in this colourful Georgian enclave and you’re within walking distance of the bars, restaurants, culture and charm that make this city at the top of the property shopping list for anyone looking for urban excitement.”

The Hare on the Hill, located on Dove Street, is among a strong selection of pubs in Kingsdown
The annual guide showcases 72 locations across the UK and aims to celebrates areas with one thing in common: “that the people who live in them are proud to call them home”.
The selections are based on visits from “expert judges” visit the locations to who assess factors such as schools, transport, broadband speeds, green spaces and the health of local high streets.
For 2026, Norwich was named the overall best place to live in the UK while Malmesbury in Wiltshire was the top of the list for the South West.

This area, bordering Cotham and the city centre, is known for its late 18th-century architecture
Helen Davies, editorial projects director and Best Places to Live editor, said: “This guide is a great opportunity to highlight the best places in Britain.
“It is full of places that show that our village, town and city centres can still be full of life, as well as places bursting with natural beauty, culture, connectivity and most importantly a sense of community.
“Our expert team of judges visit every location on the list and talk to the locals to find out what they love about the place they live.
“These judges have traveled the length and breadth of the UK, from the Scottish Highlands to the Cornish coast, selecting the top towns and villages, suburbs and cities for the 2026 guide.
“One thing all our chosen locations have in common is that the people who live in them are proud to call them home.”
