Bristol’s new MPs sworn-in at House of Commons
Labour’s Claire Hazelgrove and Sadik Al-Hassan, and the Green Party’s Carla Denyer, were among the Bristol area’s new cohort of MPs to be sworn in on Wednesday.
Hazelgrove is the new MP for Filton & Bradley Stoke, Al-Hassan for North Somerset and Denyer for Bristol Central.
They were among a record 335 new members of parliament among the queue that has formed in front of the famous green benches of the House of Commons over the last couple of days.

Members can either choose to take the oath, in which they say: “I swear by Almighty God that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King Charles, his heirs and successors, according to law. So help me God.”
If instead they choose to make an affirmation, the words are: “I (name of MP) do solemnly, sincerely and truly declare and affirm, that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King Charles, his heirs and successors, according to law.”
Having sworn-in, MPs then sign the ‘Test Roll’ – named because the act of signing it was historically regarded as a test of an MP’s loyalty to the Crown.
