Bristol Central most pro-immigration constituency in UK
Bristol Central has come out on top as the most pro-immigration constituency in the UK.
A survey, commissioned by Stack Data Strategy, found that Bristol Central, a new constituency made up of parts of Bristol West, is the constituency with the highest proportion of voters who want immigration to increase in the UK.
55 per cent of voters wanted fewer controls and higher numbers in Bristol, the survey found.
is needed now More than ever
Bristol Central was followed by the London seats of Hackney South and Shoreditch, and Bethnal Green and Bow, where 52 per cent backed such an approach in both cases.
The survey polled more than 4,000 people between November and January, and while Bristol was on average more pro-immigration, voters in nine out of 10 constituencies wanted to cut immigration levels, according to the survey.
The population of Bristol has become increasingly diverse and some local communities have changed significantly.
There are now more than 287 different ethnic groups in Bristol, with more than 185 countries of birth represented, at least 45 religions and more than 90 languages spoken by people living in the city.
The latest data from Bristol City Council found that net immigration was the largest contribution to population growth in Bristol in the 12 months to mid-2022.
In these 12 months, the population of Bristol grew by 7,740 – the largest annual increase in population by far since before the EU Referendum in 2016.
For the first time, net international migration in Bristol was almost five times higher than natural change, and was the highest net international migration in almost two decades.
