Boxing gym hosts charity drive for families facing childhood cancer
A boxing gym in St Jude’s has launched a fundraiser to support families of children battling cancer.
Trojan Free Fighters, on Newfoundland Street, is partnering with Young Lives vs Cancer and Ultra White Collar Boxing to provide essentials for families staying at ‘Home from Home’ locations.
The gym is opening its doors every Wednesday and Thursday evening, asking the public to bring items including supermarket vouchers, toiletries and sanitary products.

These items will be sent to families at Young Lives vs Cancer’s CLIC House and Sam’s House, which both offer free accommodation for families whose children are receiving treatment at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
The houses supported a collective 242 families, working to alleviate the financial burdens of accommodation and transport for families while their children underwent treatment.
Jon Leonard, the founder of Ultra White Collar Boxing who initiated the fundraising drive, said: “Young Lives vs Cancer do incredible work in Bristol.

“When we heard both CLIC House and Sam’s House needed more supplies, we knew Trojan Free Fighters – one of our key partner gyms – could help.
“Those within the boxing community have big hearts – and this is a small way we can make a big difference.”
Mario Saeed, coach at Trojan Free Fighters, added: “Boxing isn’t just about fitness – it’s about community.
“Both CLIC House and Sam’s House support families through the toughest fights of their lives, and we’re proud to back them.
“Opening up our gym for donations was the least we could do.”
The donation point will be open from 4pm-8pm to gather resources for these families.
Leanne Caulfield, accommodation manager for CLIC House and Sam’s House, said: “We want to thank everyone involved for this community fundraising drive and everyone who donates.
“It means we’ll be able to supply families with the simple essentials.
“They may seem small, but they make a huge difference to families going through cancer.”
