Architecture Centre becomes Design West
The newly created Design West aims “to champion design and placemaking” across the South West.
Formed out of an amalgamation of The Architecture Centre and Creating Excellence, the new organisation promises to bring the public, politicians and professionals together “to shape better places”.
The aim of Design West is to help create a better built environment, championing good design, community engagement and the sharing of best practice.
Anna Rutherford has been named the director of Design West – now the largest organisation in the South West for design and placemaking – after three years heading up The Architecture Centre on Narrow Quay.
“Now is such an exciting time across the South West in shaping communities for the future and we want to bring together the best talent and voices from every community to build better places,” Rutherford said.
Design West will provide design and policy services, placemaking consultancy, an international talks programme, the Shape My City talent accelerator programme, and organise the annual Bristol Open Doors festival.
