Home Energy Fair returns to Bristol to help residents cut bills and find trusted installers
If you’ve been watching your energy bills climb or felt the cold snap over Christmas, it’s a good time to start thinking about your energy efficiency. It sounds like a big challenge – where do you start? Who do you trust to do the work? Will the changes really be worth it? A free, local event in Southville is aiming to help you answer those questions.
The Home Energy Fair, hosted by Retrofit West takes place on Saturday 21st February, 10am–2pm at the Tobacco Factory in Southville and brings together local experts to offer practical advice on making homes warmer, cheaper to run, and more energy efficient.
The event will have a similar feel to the usual Tobacco Factory market, with installer stalls around the courtyard as well as live demos and talks on key topics like draughts, damp, solar panels and heat pumps, in the stretch tent and snug. Visitors can speak directly with independent experts and local contractors, all in one place, without any pressure to sign up to work on the day.
The Home Energy Fair is free to attend and family-friendly, there will be free cake and drinks throughout the day, and an area with activities for children. The kids’ corner will host plant pot decorating and seed planting activities as well as colouring sheets, so you’re free to wander the stalls and attend talks.
Whether you’re just starting to think about energy efficiency or have already ticked a few things off the list, the event offers practical advice you can act on straight away.
This will be the third Home Energy Fair hosted by Retrofit West, and organised by Future Leap, following successful events in Filton and Widcombe that welcomed nearly 200 homeowners.
One of the biggest benefits previous attendees found was having access to clear, impartial advice in a relaxed setting. As one homeowner put it:
“A really great event with lots of interesting talks, individuals and companies. It definitely gave me confidence to take the next step with retrofitting my home.”
Another added:
“Positive to see such expertise and information available locally – well done!”
For many people, energy efficiency improvements can feel intimidating. The Home Energy Fair is designed to remove that barrier by helping you take action on your problems. Visitors can hear what has worked for their neighbours, learn from shared experiences, and avoid costly mistakes.
Retrofit West has also seen homeowners who are already partway through their home improvements save money by attending previous fairs.
As another attendee said:
“I’m glad that I came here. I’ve seen a couple stalls, and they’ve given me advice, and I’m going to save a lot of money.”
By talking through plans with specialists and comparing notes with others in a similar position, you can prioritise the most effective measures and find reliable local contractors.
If you want to lower your energy bills, improve your comfort, and feel confident about your next steps, the Home Energy Fair is a great place to start.
