Bristol Charity Advent Calendar 2024, day 10: Bristol After Stroke
Bristol After Stroke helps people rebuild their lives after a stroke.
The charity’s services offer a combination of practical, social, emotional and psychological support to stroke-affected people, and their carers and loved ones.
Bristol After Stroke’s team of key workers, group leaders, counsellors and volunteers provide information, practical support, friendship and counselling in the months and years following a stroke
is needed now More than ever
A team of volunteers help out at all of their activities, with many of these volunteers having personal experience of stroke and its effects.
The charity was founded in 1975 by professor Richard Langton-Hewer, a consultant neurologist at Frenchay Hospital which is where the first support group was set up.
Bristol After Stroke now supports around 850 people each year with peer support groups, stroke cafes, short courses and counselling.
