Rare plants and orchid fair to take place in medieval church

By Daniel Garrod  Friday May 24, 2024

A rare plant and orchids fair will take place in a medieval church.

The event at St John on the Wall church on Sunday is being held in partnership with the Churches Conservation Trust (CCT) and will aid the conservation work at the historic church on Broad Street which was built on the line of Bristol’s former city wall.

Specialist nurseries and exhibitors from across the UK will be attending the event where they will showcase a variety of rare plants and flora.

Visitors will be able to explore the 14-century upper church and crypt, which will be the backdrop for rare carnivorous plants from South America, as well as unusual terrarium plants and vibrant orchids.

Show manager and CCT volunteer, Dino Zelenika, said: “This is the first rare plant show in Bristol city centre and I’m so excited to be bringing it to the city.”

Bristol Rare Plants and Orchid Fair takes place in St John on the Wall church on Sunday from 11am. For more information, visit www.visitchurches.org.uk/what-s-on/bristol-rare-plants-and-orchid-fair.html
