By Bristol24/7  Sunday Oct 1, 2017

The first ever Crumbs Awards have taken place, with many Bristol businesses receiving recognition for their efforts in the South West’s burgeoning food and drink scene.

421 nominations were whittled down to 104 finalists in 17 different categories, including Food Hero, Best Front of House, Best Newcomer and a Winner of Winners.

In total, Bristol businesses scooped ten awards. Winners included Hyde & Co (Best Bar/Pub), Eatchu (Best Food Trader), Edible Bristol (Best Food Initiative) and Windmill Hill City Farm (Best Café). The highly-contested Best Newcomer award was won by Shop 3 Bistro in Clifton Village.

The ceremony at Bristol Old Vic was described by some Twitter commentators as ‘Bristol’s Oscars’. The 400 guests received gin and tonics made with 6 O’Clock Gin, brewed in Thornbury, and also goodie bags containing local treats.

The final awards were some of the most popular with the assembled foodie crowd. Kalpna Woolf, founder of 91 Ways to Build a Global City, received the Food Hero award to rapturous applause, while 3 Cafe & Kitchen, based in Bath, were announced as Winner of Winners for their work in creating a fully-accessible café alongside their cookery school.
