He won’t be seen in the upcoming Goosebumps sequel, but Jack Black cemented his position as the king of kiddie supernatural adventuring as The House with a Clock in Its Walls comfortably topped the chart. This would still have held off the challenge from A Simple Favour without its whopping advantage of £1m in previews. Last week’s chart topper, The Predator, took a huge tumble to seventh place, its entire audience clearly having stampeded over the opening weekend. Crazy Rich Asians and King of Thieves, meanwhile, held steady and appear to be in for the long haul. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is finally fading after ten weeks and now seems unlikely to overtake its predecessor’s haul despite a valiant effort. It will still wind up as one of the year’s highest grossing films. In cast you’re wondering what happened to The Little Stranger, it’s just outside the top ten. While hardly a flop, this one is performing less well than director Lenny Abrahamson’s previous film, Room. Vertigo Films are toasting the success of The Intent 2: The Come Up. Sure, this one didn’t bother the chart compilers and may well be of interest only to grime enthusiasts, but the distributor’s yoof-oriented digital marketing campaign paid off with an impressive screen average of nearly £2,000. If you’re eager to see this one, you may wish to know that the Showcase chain has held it for another week at both Bristol sites
