Aardman’s A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon was always going to face an uphill struggle against a blizzard of new releases. But the plucky little ovine fella and his new space alien chum managed to defeat the challenge by Zombieland: Double Tap and Official Secrets to bag third place behind Disney’s latest juggernaut Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. By Disney standards, the Maleficent sequel is actually underperforming despite its £3.3m haul, while Shaun is also rather behind his first big screen outing’s £2.1m opening weekend. But both films should pick up over half term. Joker, meanwhile, remains seemingly unstoppable at the top, picking up another £10m over the last seven days to reach £40m in just three weeks. That means it’s already overtaken Captain Marvel to grab fourth position in the 2019 UK top ten. Next up to take on the DC villain is Arnie in the umpteenth bloody Terminator movie.
