Another week, another blockbuster completely dominating the chart. After the (comparatively) miserable performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story (down another 62% this week), cinema managers throughout the land breathed a huge sigh of relief as Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom enjoyed a £14.3m opening. That’s actually a little behind Jurassic World‘s £16.8m, but the suits at Universal are unlikely to complain, as it accounted for around 75% of the total UK box office over a sunny weekend. Further down the chart, Book Club held up strongly and actually climbed a place in its second week on release, underlining the wisdom of counter-programming for a neglected audience that is unlikely to be lured by blockbusters. Fashion documentary McQueen did well to sneak in at the foot of the chart as it’s showing in only 64 cinemas. But the big loser was New York indie comedy The Boy Downstairs, whose total nationwide haul was a pitiful £6,000.
