Realistically, there was little chance of plucky, low-budget outsider Hereditary dethroning reigning champ Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. But the classy horror had a bloody good go, and is doing as well as its crossover hit predecessor A Quiet Place. The dinosaurs enjoyed a second week at the top and are faring considerably better than flopbuster Solo: A Star Wars Story. But Fallen Kingdom is still performing markedly less well than its predecessor, which had amassed £13m more loot by this stage in its release. The season’s real hit is to be found further down the chart, where Avengers: Infinity War sailed over the £70m threshold this week and now has Disney’s Beauty and the Beast in its sights to secure ninth place in the UK all-time top ten. With a handful of films swallowing up just about every available cinema screen, you may be forgiven for wondering what happened to Timothy Spall’s well-received Stanley – A Man of Variety. Such is the illusion of choice that this one opened in just one London cinema, where it took £438.
