There are four new releases in this week’s chart, but only one of them made the top five as Kung Fu Panda 4 hoovered up all that Easter kiddie cinemagoing loot. It could yet become the most successful film of the franchise. Also doing well in the franchise stakes are Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, suggesting that if the studios continue to churn ’em out, audiences will carry on flocking to cinemas. Of the new releases, Dev Patel’s Monkey Man drummed up the most interest, opening ahead of Disney’s horror origin story The First Omen. Plucky Britcom Seize Them! had to settle for eighth place, while the limited cinema outing for Pixar’s Luca, previously streamed on Disney+ during the covid pandemic, was only a modest success at the foot of the chart.
