Preview: Slapstick Festival 2013

By Martin Booth  Wednesday Sep 24, 2014

Consistently one of Bristol’s best festivals of the year – and we have a fair few – Slapstick Festival brings a unique and eclectic mix of classic film comedy. Its excellence is shown by the array of special guests, which start arriving tonight as Nick Park and Peter Lord talk about Aardman, where Morph continues the fine slapstick traditions of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin.

The Gala event at the Colston Hall on Friday night is presented by Victoria Wood and will feature three comic masterpieces from Keaton, Harold Lloyd and Georges Melies accompanied by live music.

Other well-known names at the four-day festival include Paul McGann, Barry Cryer, Ian Lavender, Lucy Porter and Marcus Brigstocke.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

More festival highlights include a Laurel & Hardy clowning workshop; Bristol’s improvised comedy collective Instant Wit; an evening at the Arnolfini with Goodies Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie; and an event at the Old Vic celebrating June Whitfield where she will be presented with the inaugural Comedy Legend award.
