Open air photography exhibition debuts in Stokes Croft

By Max Story  Wednesday Oct 2, 2024

A new open air photography exhibition is on display at the mural wall in Stokes Croft, between the People’s Republic of Stokes Croft (PRSC) and Stokes Croft China, from October 3 – 16.

The exhibition has been curated by local pinhole photographer Justin Quinnell, to “create something that is accessible for all people – and in the greatest place in the country!”

Photos on display will include recent shots by renowned American photographer Millee Tibbs, as well as images from local photography group The Real Photography Company; which helps people overcome addiction thorough photography.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Describing her work, Millee Tibbs said: “I had shot all of these images in the Swiss and French alps and wanted to revise and interact with the image created by my film camera.

“I used my darkroom to manipulate my images to create perpetual abstractions and make all the images kinetic and not representative of reality. A common theme is that the mountains are a surrogate for the sublime.”

To complement the exhibition, there will also be a series of talks on experimental photography at the PRSC on October 3, from 7-9pm.

Speakers include Millee Tibbs and Justin Quinnell, as well as The Real Photography Company director Ruth Jacobs and Pablo Giori, the director of the Experimental Photography Festival in Barcelona.
