KIT FORM launches darkroom in collaboration with analogue photography champions Negative Thinking
In the summer of 2025, the artist collective at Jamaica Street Studios were able to purchase their building, following the success of a huge crowdfunder to secure the future of their historic venue for the arts.
Since that time, the resident artists and the team behind KIT FORM – the creative and community venue on the building’s ground floor – are continuing to expand what the space can offer, as well as prioritising access and usability across art forms.
In April, they will be launching KIT FORM DARKROOM – a brand-new collaboration with the analogue photography champions, Negative Thinking (now based over at Willway Yard, Bedminster).
The space promises to be a community-led, affordable darkroom for black and white DIY photographers, with “an experimental and sustainable soul”.

Organisers are keen for budding photographers of all levels of experience encouraged to get involved.
“Whether you want to print with chemicals or discover alternative processes, the new darkroom is the space for Bristolians to get stuck in, learn new skills, and be part of a vibrant community”, they say.

Negative Thinking will be running a series of workshops from the darkroom, beginning with a Wet Plate Collodion Portrait demonstration at the official launch on April 12, which is open to all.
To coincide with the launch, there will also be an open call exhibition of work, celebrating some of the many analogue photographers of Bristol.
