The Bristol photographer painting with light
For the past five years, photographer Rory Mizen has been exploring nocturnal Bristol searching for locations for his light painting photos.
Everywhere from the Lloyds Amphitheatre to underneath the M32 has become the backdrop to a series of orbs, Catherine wheels and light showers, which he creates using nothing more than a camera, tripod and flying lights.
Inspired by the work of Australian light artist Denis Smith, the 27-year-old started experimenting using some unusual light sources.
“I use strings of Christmas lights, LEDs and even a bird feeder stuffed with wire wool and set alight,” he says.
Bristol is an inspiration and a backdrop to many of his photos: “You get to explore your city at night – light painting makes you looks and discover your city in a different way.”
