Goldbrick House closes after 10 years

By Bristol24/7  Sunday May 1, 2016

Rising rents and increased competition have led to Goldbrick House closing its doors after 10 years on Park Street.

“It’s a very sad time for all of the partners and staff who have been committed for so long to offering something unique and special in Bristol,” said partner and managing director Ben Paxton.

Paxton added: ”It has been a delight and pleasure to share 10 years with customers from every corner of Bristol.

“It’s been somewhat of a rollercoaster ride of emotions but to be honest we wouldn’t have wanted to change anything and we feel very touched to have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people and to have had so much fun over the years.”

Housed over two Georgian buildings and featuring several interconnecting floors and rooms, Goldbrick House was opened in 2006 by a group of independent Bristol entrepreneurs.

During its most successful period, it was serving more than 2,000 customers a week in its ground floor cafe, cocktail and champagne bar, restaurant on two floors, roof terrace, and meeting rooms.

But the building was always a difficult space to run operationally, requiring a large number of staff to cover the numerous rooms and services.

Paxton said that a proposed rent increase “was the final nail in the coffin”, with all staff offered jobs with other associated hospitality businesses across Bristol.
