Bristol boosts business links with China

By Laura Collacott  Friday May 29, 2015

A new deal inked between the Bristol & West of England China Bureau and the Guangdong Provincial Government will help firms across the city to establish closer trading links with counterparts in China.

The West Country trade body works to build trade and connectivity between the two countries: Guangdong is a populous region on the Pearl River Delta. This new Memorandum of Understanding focuses on building greater cooperation on advanced technologies, creative industries, education, training, tourism and low carbon technologies. With it, local businesses will be able to access help in negotiating unfamiliar Chinese trading procedures while Chinese businesses will be afforded a clearer understanding of how trade is done in the UK.

“Agreements such as these are very important as it can be difficult for the individual West Country businesses to make inroads into China on their own initiative,” said Dianne Francombe, the Bureau’s chief executive. “By forging these links with the Provincial Government the bureau is paving the way for any South West firm looking to take advantage of the fantastic trading opportunities waiting for them.

“The memorandum will build on the strong relationship already established between Bristol and its sister city of Guangzhou and hopefully persuade more West firms to explore closer trading partnerships on everything from tourism to high technology.”
