AI-powered rail tech firm joins forces with American giant
A Bristol-based rail tech firm has struck a global partnership to accelerate the international rollout of its AI-powered track-monitoring system.
One Big Circle has teamed up with the American rail maintenance giant Loram Maintenance of Way, which has also taken a minority stake in the business.
The firm, based near Bristol Temple Meads station, uses AI-powered cameras mounted on trains to monitor railway tracks and surrounding infrastructure, helping rail operators to detect defects early and remedy situations.
The deal is expected to help expand One Big Circle’s Automated Intelligent Video Review (AIVR) system worldwide.

Already used across the UK network managed by Network Rail, the technology uses AI to detect faults earlier to improve safety and reduce delays.
By combining AIVR with Loram’s global reach and maintenance expertise, the partnership aims to bring the UK-developed system to rail operators internationally.
Co-founder Emily Kent described the move as a “significant milestone”, adding that the company will continue to grow its UK base and create new opportunities while expanding overseas.
She said: “Having Loram invest as partners now allows us to work together to take this British-developed technology to international markets while continuing to deliver the high-quality service and innovation that our rail industry relies on.
“We will continue to build our expertise here in the UK, creating more job opportunities and encouraging more talent into the industry.”

Loram chief executive Brad Willems said the technology had already proven its value in the UK and would now be introduced to customers around the world.
He added: “Together we aim to deliver world-class technology that enhances the safety, efficiency and performance of global rail operations.”
One Big Circle, which was founded in 2017, has confirmed its leadership team, including co-founders Emily Kent, Sam Low, Ian Packer and Barnaby Kent, who will remain in place as the business enters its next phase.
