90th anniversary screenings of the restored version of Fritz Lang’s ground-breaking futurist classic. Originally premiered in Berlin on January 10, 1927, the film was subsequently butchered by Paramount, who cut nearly a quarter of its length for the US release. Lang himself was outraged, but the excised footage was apparently lost forever. Various attempts have been made to reconstruct a version of the original film over the years, but these were deemed unsatisfactory. Then, back in 2008, a dusty negative with the missing footage was unearthed in a small museum in Argentina.

Painstaking reconstruction means that we can now see Metropolis as the director intended for the first time in 90 years. Unveiled to great acclaim at the Berlin International Film Festival, the HD-quality restoration includes a new symphony orchestra recording of the original score and newly translated English subtitles of the original German intertitles.
