The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

Director
Michael Chaves

Running Time
112 mins

This third Conjuring flick (and the eighth film in the ‘Conjuring Universe’) draws on another case from the files of late self-styled ‘demonologist’/clairvoyant duo Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga).

It’s based on the 1981 trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson for killing his landlord – the first case in American legal history in which defence lawyers set out to prove that their client was possessed by a demon and therefore not responsible for his actions. (Spoiler alert: in real life, the ruse didn’t work and Johnson was convicted of first-degree manslaughter.) Expect much waving of crucifixes and spooky FX.
