Bristol Bad Film Club: Shark Attack 3 – Megalodon

Director
David Worth
Certificate
15
Running Time
90 mins

“What do you say I take you home and eat your pussy?” enquires John Barrowman of co-star Jenny McShane. The line was improvised and intended to make Ms. McShane laugh, but director David Worth kept it in the movie because he liked Barrowman’s delivery. That’s just one of the reasons why this 2002 straight-to-video threequel to the original, undistinguished Jaws knock-off Shark Attack has become such a cult favourite. And also why future Doctor Who star Mr. Barrowman has sought to disown it.

Plot? Oh, OK: the duo play boffins who discover a giant shark’s tooth off the Mexican coast – suggesting that the most menacing beast ever to rule the oceans is still out there scoffing everything it can find. But who cares about that when there’s so much else to enjoy in the form of crappy stock footage, terrible dialogue, awful effects and a shark that seemingly possesses the power to change size at random? Profits from this Bristol Bad Film Club screening go to the Ocean Cleanup foundation. Go here for tickets.
