There were palpitations in Daily Mail-land when lady trains were permitted to share the tracks with Thomas the Tank Engine. Expect further gammony outrage as civilisation crumbles with news that Sodor’s pluckiest choo-choo is now off to visit the multicultural real world for the first time – including Africa – in this year’s big-screen outing, mixing with engines that are not only female but also bloody foreigners.
Mind you, toy company Mattel is desperate to keep self-righteous Twittermob outrage at bay too, even consulting experts at the UN when it came to naming Nia, the Kenyan engine, and selecting her African pattern. Excitingly, Peter Andre joins the voice cast too as a racing car named Ace.
