Thomas the Tank Engine has made a special effort to become more inclusive in recent years, with the addtion of lady engines and international ones. But, hey, you can’t please everyone and this new 2D makeover of the anthropomorphised railway characters has caused ‘outrage’, if the tabloids are to be believed, with some parents taking to – where else? – social media to complain that Thomas now looks ‘sinister’ and makes their cosseted nippers cry. “23 years of watching Thomas I’m devastated what they have done,” said someone on Facebook. Hmm . . . 23 years.
