Space Jam: A New Legacy

Director
Malcolm D. Lee
Certificate
U
Running Time
115 mins

Space Jam, you’ll recall (obviously), was Warners Brothers’ hugely profiable first foray into feature animation back in 1996. A live-action/animation mash-up, it sought to fuse two money-spinning franchises, uniting America’s then most bankable sports star (Michael Jordan) and an animated rabbit (Bugs Bunny) and Looney Tunes chums for a mutual celebration of the folding stuff.

The only surprise is that it’s taken them so long to do it all again. But here it is, with LeBron James taking the place of Jordan. Story? James and his son find themselves trapped in the ‘Warner 3000 Server-Verse’, from which the only escape is for the Tunes to beat the avatars of a bunch of famous players in a basketball match. So pretty much the same as the first one, then. But today’s kids probably won’t have seen that. The director is Malcolm D. (cousin of Spike) Lee.
