All kids love the Moomins. But few adults know the story of their Finnish creator, bisexual artist and author Tove Jansson. Fellow Finn Zaida Bergroth sets out to fill them in with this enjoyable biopic that centres on a key preiod in Jansson’s unconventional life, from the mid-1940s to the mid-1950s.

In her first major role, Alma Pöysti contributes a mesmerising performance as the free-spirited Jansson, who embarks on an affair with married politician Atos Wirtanen (Shanti Roney) and subsequently finds love with seductive theatre director Vivica Bandler (Krista Kosonen).

Shown as part of Bristol Pride’s Queer Vision, the Watershed’s screenings are preceded by a pre-recorded introduction by Zaida Bergroth and Alma Pöysti.
