Yes, that Seberg – nouvelle vague icon Jean Seberg, star of Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless.
She’s played by Kristen Stewart in Benedict Andrews’ biopic, which focuses on her involvement with civil rights activist Hakim Jamal (Anthony Mackie). This caused Seberg to be targeted – and her career cut short – by the FBI as part of the Bureau’s self-appointed mission to shut down “radical negro groups” such as the Black Panthers, who are deemed to be a threat to the government. Jack O’Connell gets the role of the young agent burdened by a conscience. It’s a fascinating true story, not especially well served here thanks in part to some dreadfully clunky dialogue.
