Briefly banned back home “due to its homosexual theme and clear intent to promote lesbianism in Kenya contrary to the law and dominant values of the Kenyans”, this ground-breaking drama was the first Kenyan feature to screen at Cannes.

It follows street-smart tomboy Kena and rainbow-haired free spirit Ziki as they seek a different type of life and love beyond the confines of their conservative Nairobi neighbourhood.

The Watershed’s 17:50 screening on April 19 is followed by a conversation with Billy Kahora, Kenyan author, University of Bristol lecturer, and screenwriter (Nairobi Half Life, Soul Boy), and Linda Devo (Queer Vision, co-founder of Kiki Bristol), chaired by Yaz Brien, a community organiser, writer and broadcaster on Ujima Radio.
