My Little Sister

Director
Stéphanie Chuat, Véronique Reymond
Certificate

Running Time
96 mins

Once a brilliant playwright, Lisa (Nina Hoss) returns from Switzerland to Berlin to care for her twin brother Sven (Lars Eidinger), a famous stage actor, who now suffers from an aggressive type of leukaemia.

The second narrative feature from writer/director duo Stéphanie Chuat and Véronique Reymond breaks no new ground in the upmarket cancer weepie genre, but it is superbly performed – as you’d expect from such a powerhouse cast. Variety described the film as “a modestly scaled, intimately observed domestic drama that doesn’t reinvent any wheels in its portrayal of family frictions, midlife ennui and the anguish of terminal illness, but handles all this potentially sticky material with clear-eyed (and finally, when required, somewhat moist-eyed) grace.”
